Domestic T1200-grade carbon fiber Achieves Mass Production
In March 2026, Zhongfu Shenying, a subsidiary of China National Building Material Group, unveiled its independently developed SYT80 (T1200-grade) high-strength carbon fiber. This product achieves an engineered tensile strength exceeding 8,000 MPa, making it the first T1200-grade carbon fiber to be successfully scaled up for industrial production. Its key performance parameters are benchmarked against the product specifications published by Toray, a global leader in the field. This breakthrough signifies that China has achieved end-to-end, self-reliant control over the entire value chain of high-performance carbon fibers—from technology and equipment to laboratory development and mass production. The fiber’s diameter is less than one-tenth that of a human hair; its tensile strength is roughly ten times that of conventional steel, while its density is only about one-quarter of steel’s, making it suitable for a wide range of applications in commercial aerospace, equipment manufacturing, and other sectors with stringent material-performance requirements.
